I have a geforce gtx 1060 video card in a acer predator G3-571 and would like to upgrade it. What are my options?

I was recently told that a GTX 1080 or lower grade could present issues depending on one’s resolution.
You should also mind that processors along with graphics cards will be the things to watch to avoid bottleneck issues in Star Citizen.
I am running the GTX 1080Ti right now and have very few issues with it myself. I would say that my GPU is the weakest component on my PC as of right now. I feel like anything less than the 1080 would be a bottleneck.
