Looking to start saving so I can begin to upgrade. I have had this current rig for the better part of 6 years, it has definitely served me well.
These days I don’t find much use in a desktop, as I’m on the road often for my job now. I have committed a bit of a PC gaming faux-pas and bought a skylake alienware 17 laptop.
Intel I7 6820HK
16GB DDR4 2133mhz Ram
256gb Samsung 951 PCIE SSD
1TB 7200RPM HDD
GeForce GTX980m 4GB graphics
It’s hard to tell what the star citizen performance is really like, I juggle between 30-60FPS regardless of graphics settings at 1920x1080 resolution. But it will do 60fps in witcher 3 with a couple setting tweaks, mostly high-ultra range.
I am hoping that the alienware graphics amplifier will give me the chance to play at respectable framerates by the time the game launches. I just dock it and run regular peripherals when I’m at home, and hopefully a gtx980m will still be enough to run the game at lower settings for when I’m on the road.

Building a PC has always been on my bucket list so with the recent Black Friday sales and Star Citizen I decided to finally do it. I have no complaints about any of the components so far. I really like the motherboards features include auto-overclock, the PSU is modular and comes with a lot more cables than I needed, the case has so much ventilation/cooling options and great cable management, I could’ve gone with a more expensive GPU because I was underbudget but the R9 380 and this monitor render SC beautifully.
The only thing I need to do is to get more storage space…soon.
FYI I went skylake because my older comp was essentially obsolete. I jumped about 3 or 4 gens.
Currently playing Alpha 2.0 and Planetside 2 (Connery Server- GT: BlindDentist)
