Any suggestions on a laptop between 1,000 and 1,300? Needs to be windows and want a larger screen and keyboard. Something I can use at my recliner, trying to do writing and general web stuff.
I like the one below I can get at Costco. And also has a basic gaming video card built-in so hopefully I can play tabletop simulator and other simpler games.
This is not an endorsement as I do not and never have owned any of their products; however, if I ever buy a laptop again, I will seriously consider one from Framework for the possibility of later updating/repair. Their DIY kits start at $1400, so they are a bit of a price stretch vs similar units, but I’ve kept every laptop I’ve owned going beyond each one’s first death by conducting internal repairs, and it has always been an ordeal to dig into where I was never meant to dig. The modularity of these is a big draw for me. It might be worth a look to see if it’s right for you.
LOL. For a year until 3 days ago I was signed up to get the newer 16 framework laptop that you can add a video card to if you want. But as I was about to be able to get it, I decided it wasn’t quite baked enough yet. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I found out that the battery drained while using the gameing video card even if it was plugged in. Apparently the USB power adapter needed to power it fully hasn’t been made yet. I would have gotten the smaller one, but I want a large screen.
So I had to give up on my framework dreams for now.
I ended up getting the framework laptop after all and so far I’m liking it aside from the extra price.
At this point it’s not for gaming so I didn’t get the add-on video card, so the power isn’t an issue. But the one I got seems very solid. I don’t see any of the growing pain issues they were talking about before.
At some points, once they sort out the power issues for the video card I might upgrade it to play games. Though of course, I’m sure it will never be as good as a dedicated desktop machine for gaming.
