GPU at around 98% when running ARK, but it shouldn't be.

Quick tech question on Ark: Survival Evolved. Just started playing again this weekend (single player) and I’m monitoring system usage.

I have an i5-6600 CPU and an 1080GTX GPU. i5 isn’t taxed (maybe 50-70%), but GPU usage when not in menu stays around 98%. Temp isn’t excessive (mid 70s C at most), but it does cause the GPU fans to run a bit high. Reducing quality to Medium doesn’t appear to have any effect other than the amount of VRAM used. Regardless of quality settings, I’m not seeing any lag or performance issues playing the game itself.

I just find this odd considering my GPU usage isn’t anywhere near this with Ghost Recon: Wildlands unless I turn up everything. Wildlands is a VERY demanding game and strains my CPU way more than ARK does.

Anyone else see this behavior?

I do not play Ark so I cannot attest to seeing this behavior.

That said - the new drivers for the 10 series (released 20170824) have specific patch notes regarding offering improved experience with Ark. If you have not done so already, I would suggest updating your drivers.

Thanks for pointing that out. I updated the driver and while there could be other factors, I’m not seeing the 98% issue anymore.
