Easing back in

Hi all,

I’m just getting back into SC after more or less abandoning it for a few years; personal stuff at home got in the way, and caring for my dad when he was in palliative care really squashed my enthusiasm. Anyway, I’ve come back and find myself at Grand Admiral supporter level, which was a bit of a surprise, and I want to start getting back into actually doing stuff in-game, now that there’s, well, more to do, with hopefully better stability than when I was last playing.

I need to rebuild my SimPit, reconfigure my HOTAS, MFDs, and GameGlass; in the meantime I’m flying around via keyboard and trackball… not ideal.

I’ve based myself at Lorville, and so far I’ve mostly run Covalex hauling missions between Everus Harbour and the various stations at Hurston’s Lagrange points. Tried a bit of mining in my Prospector, and will be trying as bit of salvaging in my Vulture.

I’ve been patchy keeping up with ship releases, but I’ve suffered the odd willpower failure and bought stuff, which is why my first hauling contracts were done in a Clipper, then in my Spirit C1 (not around any more, I’ll get to why in a bit), then my Corsair (also not around any more, I’ve CCU’d it into a Starlancer TAC), and currently running them in an Asgard.

So, the current situation is I’m going to be trying to avoid combat while I get the SimPit rebuilt and configured (although I suppose I could run a turret in something, or pilot a slow, multi-crew ship with other people manning the turrets). For the time being it’s probably best if I stick to hauling, mining, and salvaging.

However, on the “slow, multi-crew ship” side of things, I’ve got a few that may (?) be of use in bigger operations: aside from the aforementioned Starlancer TAC and Asgard, there’s a Hull-C, a Reclaimer, a Carrack, and that Spirit C1 that I don’t have anymore because it’s been CCU’d into a Perseus. There’s a Hercules in there too, I think, as a loaner for something; and stuff with turrets like a Valkyrie, a Vanguard Harbinger, a Gladiator and a Redeemer.

Any suggestions for how I can best help out the org, drop them here or as a DM. I’m on GMT, and hoping to get on for at least a few hours a week.

Hey Caradog welcome back, and thank you for sharing all of that with us. First off, I’m sorry to hear about what you went through with your dad. That kind of responsibility changes priorities fast, and it’s completely understandable that the game took a back seat for a while. I’m glad to hear you’ve found your way back when things are a bit more stable.

You’re honestly in a great spot to ease back in. Hauling, mining, and salvaging are all core loops we regularly support, especially for members who want to avoid heavy combat while getting their setups dialed back in. Lorville/Everus is also a solid home base for that kind of work. feel free to hop into the discord Atlas Defense Industries
