Brand new to SC! Want to purchase Polaris, should I wait?

Hello, I am brand new to Star Citizen, I am loving every bit of it. I have acquired a fair amount of ships so far, mostly small ones. I want a big ship, like minimum Polaris, Pioneer status, maximum Idris. Should I purchase while I have the chance during this sale? Or shall I wait until the game is launched fully.

Thanks!

Also I am looking to get in to some gameplay with amigos soon, I am a soft eng. I also just got out of the Navy, so a bit busy however defiantly often.

Well first off, Welcome to Star Citizen!

Being I approved the post, I figure you are considering your first ship option. I would start of slow at first, as the bigger ships tend to cost a pretty penny. As one who has owned a Starfarer, and currently own’s Andromeda Constellation and Retaliator Bomber… I love them BOTH!

But making a ship purchase now is a investment into ‘Chris Roberts’ dream, and if it doesn’t have LTI it has a chance of being lost within the verse. Granted I am sure you would keep your insurance up to date, and would never loose such a powerful investment made with real world funds.

I can say if your coming into SC and looking to get a ship. Start off with a bird you can get yourself acquainted with in the verse, play the game and make sure you wanna invest more. The Grey Market has several of the big ships on sale but typically at a marked up price, the sales will have these ships for sale but typically for 3 to 12 month insurance not life time.

All ships will be able to be saved up for, purchased within the verse once at launch. ADI will also have alot of ships spread out through hundreds and thousands of pilots. Which I will have quite a few that the organization can use as they please, my final goal is being a Military Carrier Captain for Fleet Security. Will I drop 2 to 6 grand if one came up in a concept sale… Twitch tempting…twitch no…

Since 2012 I’ve invested $2400 into the game if not more, can’t remember the last count. But I do know the feeling of ‘I must have’ even knowing that I can get them in the verse later.

My best advise is, consider and think it through before making any big investments. Start off slow, make sure this is what you wanna do and if you wanna make the plunge and don’t need to sacrifice a body organ to get it… then go for it!

Hoped this helped

Have to agree with Lexton. I bought a larger crewed ship, not as big as a Polaris, but they come with the challenge of crewing them. Yes you can hire NPCs, but NPCs cost credits and the Polaris really isn’t intended to be a money maker and any mission it can make money on will be higher risk…after all a capital ship isn’t going to do cargo runs and a cargo pilot could hire a pair of fighter for a lot less for an escort than they could a capital ship.

But if a large ship is your desire, getting into a larger organization with other players who can man it is a better option - and a one of the reasons I joined ADI…I’ve got a lot of support available.

But Lex’s idea of getting something smaller you want and can play if solo is a better start. If you can afford a Polaris, you certainly can afford a smaller ship and a larger one. Besides, you must have a package to play the game and a mustang is a very good starter package at a very low cost. Nothing wrong with getting both.

Thank you!! Helps a great deal actually! That twitch is starting to gain way on me as well! Great advice, I appreciate it Lexton.

Thank you Jolly, Cutlass Blue maybe in the meantime? I am loving the bounties and securities features previews!

Blue is good bounty hunter (due to cages). There are two others intended for the role to include the Hawk that is currently a concept sale (lowest price it will be and with lifetime insurance).

The Cutlass is an amazing ship, I would highly recommend it for sure! I am biased tho as I own a Black.

If you want to do some bounty hunting, make sure to check out Private Contract Services within ADI (atlasdefenseindustries.com/divis … t-services). If you have any questions on PCS, please hit me up and I will be happy to answer them.

Also, buy something like the Hawk for the LTI (Lifetime Insurance), then you can always upgrade it later to a bigger ship during one of these sales and transfer that insurance to the larger craft instead of getting 5 years or whatever they are offering.

Greetings: what is the game play you want?

I personally started out with a Drake Herald then went to a super hornet over the years My imagination grew - My game play desires changed from wanting to be a fighter jock to being a Capitol Ship Captain so that I could fly with a crew and in my imagination a fleet!
Well today I have a Polaris and 2 Hammerheads, combined with My Brother We have a Javelin too!

In My opinion the choice is determined by your game play desires, You can be anything you want to be, this is after all Chris Roberts Universe where everything is possible!

Be careful tho of Eye Candy (Ships), immediate gratification sometimes turns into regret not always but sometimes. imo

The polaris is an interesting ship. It has the ability to repair, do medical, and is also a strong opponent against capital ships and such. I could see it being a fairly well-rounded ship. Of course it’s more expensive too so there’s that. Check out the RSI page with its stats, and all the advice these guys have given looks solid too. I don’t think we’ll really know for sure until it’s released in a later patch what it’s role will look like to a some degree.
