Just wondering if any of you head tracking users out there could help me out as I’m still debating on how to go as far as head tracking goes.
Seeing some of the Noobifier’s videos lately, does TrackIR have a setting within it that you can change profiles on the fly? If I’m using TrackIR rather than the hat switches on my HOTAS that leaves me with what to do with said hat switch. I was thinking of using them to switch between a few head tracking profiles. One for controlling gimbals with a low ratio. Second with all 6DOF enabled in such a way that assists with looking around and zooming at the MFD’s in the cockpit. Third would have a high ratio for target spotting outside the ship and fourth… I dunno… Should this be doable with the TrackIR software?
Also, I’ll definitely be spending some time in the dark yet I don’t use a headset to hold the track clip pro in place. I have no problem wiring up some IR LED’s and a small battery to a ballcap/visor whatever. Does TrackIR still work if the LED’s aren’t in the exact same orientation that the track clip pro is in?
Which I guess leads me sort of into a third question. If I’m already building the LED array, are there any cheaper cameras than the basic TrackIR 5 package that perform better? I have read a lot of speculation but most people don’t seem to have experience with both TrackIR and the other options.
To your first question and if you did not know, you can make multiple profiles, one for example fps and one for flying and I’d guess you can change them on the fly. Fps I use a small threshold that keeps the viewbin the middle and flying profile has no threshold.
I just started trying out TrackIR but have already noticed the default settings don’t make it very useful for space combat. Has anyone found a better way to set everything up?
I’m curious if you ever came back to this/figured out a way to make it work. I too fly with TrackIR in most flight sims and find it invaluable - as well as for ARMA 3 play (I know some find it disorienting to decouple view from direction of travel, but it’s never been an issue for me). What in particular was making it less than useful for you in flying, and did you find any solutions? I haven’t tried to set it up in game yet, but may tinker with it this weekend, and appreciate any tips/findings you have that could jumpstart that process.
I built my own IR tracking device and since I have not yet begun to set it up in SC I can’t help with that. However for the camera I can highly recommend the Playstation Eye camera. It is less than 10 bucks, and after doing the filter mod (I used floppy disk media as a filter), I have no issue leaving the camera plugged in all the time since there is no visible picture at all.
