Introduction: Kayski

Hi all,

I’m Kayski, or just K for short. I’ve played a wide variety of FPS and some space games in the past, none quite like Star Citizen. I also loved playing ARMA 2 and 3 in the past, however never got into a group or clan as organized as ADI. I like organized play and when it works its great fun.

I quite enjoy space combat and often find myself freelancing as an escort in the PU for people I randomly come across. I fly dual T16000 sticks, sometime in the future I hope to get a FOIP or head-tracking rig (I have tried FOIP before, it was ok). I look forward to flying with you in the 'verse.

Ping me a message or a reply if you have any questions and fly safe o7

Welcome to ADI! Looking forward to seeing you ingame and having some good times.

I just joined earlier today myself and the interactions I’ve had so far has been beyond any starting welcoming interactions I’ve had in any other games when joining new groups.

Hi Kayski, welcome to ADI.
I’ve not used foip but I have headtracking that I made myself using a PS3 camera, a floppy disk. I soldered a bit but it’s not needed. It helped save me a fortune. It’s a real game changer so worth looking into if you’re trying to save money.

Thanks for all the welcome messages! Jumped straight into action today, it’s been a load of fun, defending PO with a solid team. As soon as I’ve wrapped my head around the forums and the calendar I’ll start looking at certifications. So far, I’m really glad to be here!

@FatHeadedZebra I was thinking about rigging a DIY track-IR, potentially. Last time I tried FOIP with a £20-£30 logitech cam it actually worked pretty well, I’m almost sure if I get a decent enough cam and lighting it will work fine. I might try FOIP again, before trying to rig other headtracking, just because all it needs is a half-decent cam. Do we know if FOIP tracking has improved at all since the last year or so?

Welcome to ADI @Kayski!

I have TrackIR and I wouldn’t want to play without some form of head tracking now.

Never tried FOIP, I have seen a few streamers that do and it looks to work pretty well for them.

See you around!

I’ve heard that foip works pretty well now. Still has issues but it’s greatly improved over the last couple of years. I usually play in the dark, with just a single dimmed red led behind me so I fear that it won’t work well for me. Plus I wear glasses now so that’ll add to the confusion.
I use HeadTrackNoir for my head tracking. There’s two versions available, one can support dual camera and allows for foip. Once I got it set up and and curves and saturation correct I’ve not had an issue with it. Only one is that the programme sometimes crashes if I open it before launching star citizen. It’s easily reopened but now I just start it after.
This is an interesting read; A complete guide to set up Head-tracking (Opentrack) - Hardware, Software and Controllers - IL-2 Sturmovik Forum
You’ll read about needing a specific PS3 cam as it’s the only one that can have the IR filter removed. That’s not the case. If you get one if the newer models you can literally just cut the floppy then stick it over the front outside lense using a little super glue - no need to take camera to bits or solder. I can send a pic of the one I have, if you like.
I had a plastic mount made and I then bought and soldered in IR lights but for ease I’d probably buy something pre soldered off of eBay as they’re about £26.
All together I spent about £22 but I already had the soldering kit. The biggest issue I had was fitting the damn head piece to my Asus Rog centurion headset. I bodged it using some tin foil from a number of cherry bakewells (I won’t specifically say how many). It works perfectly so won’t change but I know that the Duntrackr has a ball joint which would have been useful.
If you’re in the UK I have a PS3 camera monitor mount and a bit if floppy disk I could send you.

That’s awesome Zebra, I do live in the UK, so when I’m ready to rig the tracking together I’ll look into your link and see about getting the correct cam. I’ll reach out to you in case I need a mount. If someone else who needs it comes along before me don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll find a solution or replacement somewhere like ebay or amazon if you give it away to someone else. Thanks!

Amazon sent me two by mistake

Welcome to ADI! For certifications, start with the basic certs. They are in the members only section, and are super easy. Just a quick read through which provides a great set of tips to start on the basics. How to start a ship, fire guns, buy cargo etc. After that the fun ones do require some actual play time with us, but they are a phenomenal way to practice. And of course, hang out with us in mumble and we are always happy to help out and give pointers  See you in the verse!

Glad to be here, thank you. I’ve completed the basic flight and crew self certificates, pending approval and looking forwards to picking up Fleet Security - Combat Pilot, possibly Marine Pilot and EWO certs too.

@Hercules_13 Never had a crime stat, I think it was cross-fire. Nice flying with you too, getting ready for some more. Just did a character reset, need to get some upgrades and the uniform.

See you all out there!

Welcome @Kayski. I never played a flight sim before and had SC for months before I hooked up TrackIR. Honestly I wish I would have had it on day one now. Noway I would want to play w/o it.

Welcome, K. It sounds like you’re bringing some good FPS skill to the group.

More than happy to support with boots on the ground if need arises. I’m looking forwards to more FPS gameplay in SC - it isn’t very inviting in it’s current state but the planned features are great and sound like a lot of fun.
